Track of the week: Shiva Naturaj
For the inaugural track of the week, we kick things off with a haunting downtempo track from Desert Dwellers, as remixed by Banco de Gaia.
Desert Dwellers is a globally-recognized electronic music project hailing from the deserts of New Mexico and California. Comprised of Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe, the duo has been creating and performing music together for over 20 years. Inspired by the vast and rugged beauty of the desert landscapes, they have crafted a unique sound that has captivated audiences around the world and has garnered them a devoted following of listeners who appreciate their sonic oasis for the mind and body.
Toby Marks, the creative force behind Banco De Gaia, is one of the worlds leading exponents of globally inspired eclectic electronica. Mixing electronic and accoustic instruments and voices his work defies genre classification.
The track has a meditative, ambient beginning with pads, bells and a haunting vocal. There is a slow to build to the percussion coming in at 1:30. This track is slowed right down. Super downtempo. Indigenous percussion rhythms keep things flowing.
The beat and rhythm eventually fade out bringing us back to an ambient, contemplative place.
