Staring into Space
I love looking at the stars.
We have a hot tub at our house. On clear nights, I love to just sit back and look up.
When the stars are visible, we get a sense for how small we are. One tiny piece of the universe.
On rare nights, the milky way becomes visible. This really puts it into perspective.
It's so easy to think it's all about us. Only our reality matters. Realizing how we are one of some unknown number of stars and planets helps me, at least, realize that it's not all about me.
Gazing up at the stars also make me think about life's biggest questions:
Why are we here?
What is the purpose of life?
Are there other species out there? Are they sentient?
Where is God? What is God?
When I stare at the night sky, I connect more deeply with spirit.
It brings me away from the insignificance of day to day life. It helps me think about the biggest possible picture: The universe.
I hope you get to see the night sky whereever you live. If you're in a city and the stars are not visible, get away some time. Contemplate the vastness of space.
It's magical...
